Dominique Reilly

I’m Dominique — I’m a flutist, educator, and arts organizer based in Houston, Texas.

I serve as Principal Flute of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and collaborate on explorative new works like Marco Antonio Santos’ visual album About: Silence and the soundtrack for the Concertia-produced stage play Cloud Tectonics.

I designed the hybrid program FlutePath to help flutists build the technical and artistic tools needed to meet their goals, whether it’s a preparing for an audition or rediscovering joy in their playing. I also serve as Executive Director of Through the Staff, an all-volunteer startup 501(c)3 organization connecting students who can’t access music lessons with volunteers for weekly virtual instruction and resources.

My education includes a bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance with a minor in Media Production from the University of Houston and a master’s degree in Flute Performance with coursework in Arts & Cultural Management & Entrepreneurship from The University of Texas.

I’d love to work together — let’s chat.

Through the Staff

Through the Staff was established in 2020 with a simple vision: accessible music education for all. Pursuing music is prohibitively expensive. TTS is an all-volunteer, all-virtual 501(c)(3) non-profit organization helping bridge the gap by connecting over 350 students across the U.S. with our services:

  • Weekly virtual private lessons with volunteer musicians

  • Peer performance opportunities

  • Educational webinars

  • Financial aid for necessary materials and equipment

About: Silence

Marco Antonio Santos
Eyes & Ears Records, 2023
Santos’s debut album, About: Silence, is a conceptual work that combines music, visual art, improvisational dance, and poetry to explore the various meanings of silence—introspection, grief, oppression, absence of sound, and more. Conceived during the forced solitude of the COVID-19 pandemic, when live musical performances all but ceased, and amid times of social upheaval and racial violence, About: Silence is a full-throated embrace of artistic expression across multiple dimensions. The album’s eleven compositions are brought to life by a jazz trio of guitar, upright bass, and drums, joined by a woodwind quartet on four tracks and a string quartet on five.

There is certainly a paradox about composing music to portray different aspects of silence. One of the biggest reasons for writing this work was the urge to express thoughts and experiences regarding the idea of silence itself. It was heavily influenced by the months of isolation and the loss of oso many lives during the worst of the COVID pandemic; the suppressed voices in recent cases of racial in justice; and my personal experience as an immigrant in a ery individualistic culture. In addition, the debut of any work, especially one that involves audio recording, is inherently a “break” in artistic self-silence.
